Clement, James "James" Posted: 6/18/2009 11:24:26 AM
Class of 1986

It is with great sadness that I report the death of our class mate from the class of 1986, Laura "Elise Delony" Heathman. I have not kept in contact with many from our class, but met Elise's cousin last week and she informed me of her death in October 2007. I never expected anything like this to happen and she will be missed.

Elise was a good friend and a great student. I worked with Elise on several projects while we persued our Masters of Professional Accountancy degree at LA Tech and both graduated in May 1986.

Elise went on to become a dedicated wife, mother, teacher and volunteer. Below is her obituary from the Ruston Daily Leader:

Obituaries
Laura Elise Heathman (10-12-2007)

Laura Elise Heathman went home to God on Oct. 9, 2007 after a tragic accident in her home the previous morning.

Born March 21, 1964 to parents Roy and Margaret Delony of Vienna, she is preceded in death by her grandparents Maggie Huffman, and Belva and W. D. “Hap” Delony.

Elise is survived by her husband James; their three children Claire, Thomas and Leslie; her sister, Daphne Taylor and husband Kirk of Ruston; her parents; her grandfather, T.R. Huffman of Dubach and dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and close friends that will miss her dearly.

Elise and James met while going to school at Louisiana Tech University, where she graduated with a master’s degree in accounting. After marrying on Aug. 1, 1987, she and James lived in Ruston, Bossier City, Laurel, Miss., Duncan, Okla. and Katy, Texas. While living in Katy, Elise began substitute teaching for KISD. It was here where she learned her true calling in life was working with children, and the past 2 years has worked for the Early Childhood Development Center at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church. She loved nothing more than to sit in the floor surrounded by her little penguins teaching them the wonders of life. Elise also volunteered as a Sunday school teacher at several age levels.

Visitation in Katy will be held Friday, Oct. 12, from 4-7 p.m. at Schmidt Funeral Home, and memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. at St Peter’s United Methodist Church in Katy. Visitation in Ruston will be held Sunday, Oct. 14 from 3-5 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Elise will be laid to rest with a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15 in Vienna Cemetery.

A special thank you goes to the EMT crew of West I-10 fire department, the emergency and ICU staff of Memorial Hermann, and to friends of the family Pam Neilson and Ralph Clark.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St Peter’s ECDC located at 20775 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX 77450.
